Who are the people that make our cities?

PlaceMakers is a new publication produced by Future Places Studio which identifies and celebrates the people making our cities.

PlaceMakers – London is our pilot edition and meets some of the people that make up London’s placemaking community. In shining a light on this community we aim to provide other towns and cities with the inspiration to celebrate their own placemakers.

By talking to the people in the thick of placemaking we want to illustrate some of the challenges facing our urban areas. We look ahead to the cities of tomorrow and aim to stimulate conversations about what placemaking of the future will be.

We have identified 14 personas which make up the placemaking community.

Established: Visionary, Investor, Developer, Architect, Community, Agent, Planner

Disruptors: Entrepreneur, Pop-Up, Community Land Trust, Host, Tech

Influencers: Connector, Enabler

At the end of PlaceMakers we include the PlaceMaker Map which is an easy to use tool and useful starting point for anyone mapping the place maker community in their town or city.

PlaceMakers is for anyone that seeks to make great towns and cities. This might be someone starting a placemaking project for the first time, established placemakers or a Local Government, Council or City administration.
